Gasset, the excuse that doesn't work

The OM coach, as well as several of his players, justified the defeat in Rennes by fatigue. An excuse that doesn't really go down well.

Jean-Louis Gasset began his tenure at Olympique de Marseille with a series of five consecutive victories. However, this excellent dynamic was halted since the Marseille club lost its last two matches, at Villarreal in the Europa League, then against Stade Rennais in Ligue 1.

“We would have liked to continue this positive dynamic, but unfortunately, we lacked a little fuel and oxygen”, regretted the OM coach, at a press conference, after the defeat in Brittany. A justification identical to that of Jonathan Clauss. “I think we lacked energy… We missed a lot of things but we also played one match after another”recalled the right side.

Too easy a justification

A similar story from Amine Harit. “We arrived at the end of a very tiring month where a lot of energy was spent. I think we lacked efficiency and accuracy and I felt a lot of fatigue. I felt everyone a little tired”, declared the Moroccan international. Speeches that the OM management hardly appreciated according to RMC Sport. The excuse of fatigue would not be considered admissible.

After the international break, OM will enter the home stretch of their season. And it will begin with the “Classique” against Paris Saint-Germain, at the Stade Vélodrome, on Sunday March 31. The Olympian club will then travel to Lille on April 5, then to Benfica on April 11 for the quarter-final first leg of the Europa League.
