Man Utd have informed Sofyan Amrabat that he will not sign permanently at the end of the season.

This is according to Gazzetta dello Sport, which states that only a sensational improvement in performance over the last two months of the season can save Amrabat’s career at United. Last summer, United paid €9 million to sign Amrabat on loan for the season from Fiorentina.

The Red Devils have the option to make the contract permanent for 25 million euros at the end of the season.
However, United chose not to activate this option due to the 27-year-old’s very poor performances. After recovering from injury to join Man Utd, Amrabat struggled to get going.

Soldier Amrabat will not be saved

Initially, he was established as left-back by Erik ten Hag, amid an injury crisis at that position. Amrabat was particularly poor in this role during the 3-2 home defeat to Galatasaray in the Champions League. But since then, the Moroccan has continued to struggle since he was placed back in his favorite position, central midfielder.

He has now fallen very low in the hierarchy, although Ten Hag still used him from time to time as a left back. The Moroccan established himself as one of Europe’s most admired central midfielders at Fiorentina last season, and Barcelona and Chelsea also attempted to sign him in the January 2023 transfer window.
