Mbappé, the hard blow

The Champions League draw could disrupt the timing of the announcement of Kylian Mbappé’s signing for Real Madrid. A final between PSG and the Merengues is still possible…

The verdict is in. There will be no Champions League quarter-final between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. And this is important news for Kylian Mbappé.

It’s not that the Bondynois feared facing the club he will (undoubtedly) join next season. In 2022, in a comparable situation, he blazed against Real: a goal in the first leg to give victory to PSG, a goal on the return leg at the Bernabeu. The subsequent Parisian collapse, and therefore the elimination, cannot be blamed on him.

What can Mbappé do?

For Mbappé, the problem is that it is difficult for him to announce his signing for Real when a confrontation against PSG is still possible. And as we know the table, we know that it will not be possible before the final. Let’s imagine a PSG-Real duel on June 1 at Wembley, the days preceding the meeting are likely to be electric, whatever happens: whether Mbappé has lifted the veil on his future, or whether he has not yet announced his decision.

The ideal for him would almost be for one of the two clubs to be eliminated in the quarters or half, to clear the horizon for a possible PSG-Real final. But Mbappé is not going to wish harm on his current club… or his future employer.
