OM therefore survived its reunion with Marcelino, its first coach of the season (who had precipitated the Phocaeans to a non-qualification in the Champions League then to a catastrophic start to the season). Winners 4-0 at the Stade Vélodrome last week, in the round of 16 of the Europa League, the Marseille players validated their qualification after a defeat in the den of Villarreal (3-1), Thursday evening.
At the whistle of this one-sided encounter, which saw the Yellow Submarine brush against a remontada (before the visitors’ goal in the 94th minute by Jonathan Clauss), Marcelino did not want to shake Amine Harit’s hand. The Villarreal coach continued to greet his former OM players, giving Geoffrey Kondogbia a hug, which calmed things down a little. “Bring me Baki next time”Harit had fun on X Friday afternoon, referring to Baysangur Chamsoudinov, who beat MMA star Cédric Doumbè last week.
Before the first leg, the Moroccan international had affirmed, in a video interview, that his team was ” even more “ motivated by the idea of facing Villarreal coached by Marcelino, who had resigned after pressure from supporters groups. Marcelino obviously didn’t like it and therefore attacked the number 11 of the Phocaeans.
