The French team is already planning for the European Nations Championship.
There was a back-to-school air at the FFF headquarters on Thursday when Didier Deschamps showed up to announce the list of players summoned for the next gathering of the French team. It will inevitably have a special flavor, like all even years, since it will be the last before preparation for the great adventure: Euro 2024.
While a little surprise was expected with the potential presence of young Parisian striker Bradley Barcola, the Blues coach finally delivered a classic list, without a new face. He thus confirms the idea that his group is almost closed for the European Nations Championship.
The list of Blues is taking shape
Didier Deschamps even expressed this thought at a press conference, as he did last December. “ There is a hard core of around twenty names. If there is no physical problem… Afterwards, it can play out, on two, three, four players, depending on what happens between now and June“, he blurted.
As things stand, the twenty or so names would not be very difficult to identify. Around Kylian Mbappé (captain) and Antoine Griezmann (vice-captain), the executives are present in all lines: Mike Maignan, Brice Samba and Alphonse Areola for the goalkeepers; the Hernandez brothers, Dayot Upamecano, Ibrahima Konaté, Benjamin Pavard, William Saliba, Jules Koundé and Jonathan Clauss for the defense; Aurélien Tchouaméni, Edouardo Camavinga, Adrien Rabiot for the midfielder; but also Olivier Giroud, Kingsley Coman (package for this gathering) and Marcus Thuram for the attack.
