Qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, PSG intends to continue its journey.
“You have to beat everyone to go to the end.” The recent history of the Champions League shows that this adage should be filed away as an old cliché. Paris Saint-Germain can attest to this. Since the start of the QSI era, the capital club has rarely been spared when seeing the old glories shoot the little balls in Switzerland.
This Friday, Kylian Mbappé and his teammates will therefore carefully scrutinize the draw for these Champions League quarter-finals, organized in Nyon, and scheduled from noon. After several failures in the round of 16 against big names (Real Madrid, Bayern Munich), Paris had finally inherited an opponent within its reach this season. The French champion held his place by eliminating Real Sociedad (2-0 and 2-1 victory). He hopes for an identical scenario for the quarters.
The most affordable opponent for PSG?
We didn’t even have to wait until the end of the eighth to find the most affordable potential opponent for Paris Saint-Germain. The winner of the Borussia Dortmund-PSV Eindhoven clash ticked all the boxes. Finding BvB, a team which finished first in the group stage but which did not beat them – would therefore be an ideal scenario for PSG.
For the rest, FC Barcelona, to a lesser degree, also seems affordable this season, although the Parisians are certainly tired of crossing their path. Arsenal also lack European reference, despite their impressive performance in England. Bayern Munich remains an unpredictable machine but has gone through a deep crisis. And if Inter Milan or Real Madrid do not seem untouchable, these two teams would certainly be scarecrows for PSG, not to mention Manchester City, title holder and perfectly oiled machine.
