Chelsea are interested in Lille defender Leny Yoro to replace the aging Thiago Silva.
Yoro has been linked with numerous clubs since the start of the season and Chelsea are now interested in the 18-year-old, according to The Standard. With Silva’s contract expiring this summer, Chelsea are looking to sign a young central defender. Despite having few defensive options due to injury problems, Mauricio Pochettino left Silva on the Chelsea bench in the last two Premier League matches. Yoro is seen as a perfect fit for the Chelsea project, with the France Under-21 international having already joined Lille’s senior team.
The 18-year-old has had a fantastic season in France and other top European teams like Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest in signing him this summer. PSG remains the favorite for the young man, but Lille wants to keep him in Ligue 1 beyond the summer.
Chelsea doesn’t give up
Jean-Clair Todibo (Nice) and Ousmane Diomande (Sporting) are two potential central defenders to replace Yoro, as Chelsea plan another very active summer in terms of transfers. Chelsea are said to not be concerned about breaking Premier League rules on profit and sustainability, and believe they will be free to spend money and fight for their targets.
The London club will continue to fight to improve on their disappointing season, in order to end it on a high note and show their potential summer targets that they are still the place to be, despite a notable dip in form. The Blues will face Leicester City in the FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday March 16.
