Antoine Griezmann apologized for his very limited comments towards Alexis Sanchez

Atlético Madrid star Antoine Griezmann played a crucial role in his side’s comeback against Inter on Wednesday night, who progressed to the quarter-finals on penalties against the Italian league leaders.

Nonetheless, an image of Griezmann has been making the rounds on social media not for his goal, but for his comment during a penalty shootout.

Apologies accepted

We see Griezmann celebrating as Alexis Sanchez prepares to take his penalty, before it is saved by Jan Oblak. However, according to Marca, Griezmann felt remorseful for his words and contacted the Chilean to apologise. Sanchez accepted his apology, while Griezmann explained that he had gotten carried away while cheering for Oblak, which was his main goal, and that the former had only seen it as a natural occurrence in a tense match.

It’s no surprise that most managers and players cover their mouths when speaking on the field or on the sidelines. In these moments of adrenaline and tension, channeling emotions to make them diffuse is not necessarily the first thing that comes to mind.
