It’s Arsenal who get their ticket to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. This Tuesday evening, the Gunners defeated FC Porto in the penalty shootout (1-1 cumulative score / 4-2 after TAB).
A high-tension meeting between two teams who played every shot to the fullest and who put on a spectacular match.
If on the pitch tempers sometimes got heated, it was also the case on the sidelines between the two coaches, namely Sergio Conceição and Mikel Arteta. In a post-match conference, the Portuguese coach declared that his Spanish counterpart had insulted him during the match.
“Arteta insulted my family. At the end, I told him that the one he had insulted was no longer with us… Let him care about training his team more and better,” he admitted.
Arsenal, back in the quarter-finals 14 years later!
Arsenal were impatiently waiting for it! Favorite in this round of 16 against FC Porto, the London club held its place and climbed among the eight best teams in the Old Continent. Fourteen years later, the Londoners made their comeback in the round of 16.
An eternity for a club of this standing. Mikel Arteta’s players do not yet know their future opponent. The draw will take place this Friday at 12 p.m. French time.
