PSG: the funny decision of Eintracht Frankfurt with Hugo Ekitike

By: Manu Tournoux

There are no miracles in top-level football. Without playing time since the end of August, Hugo Ekitike could not smash everything upon his arrival at Eintracht Frankfurt. However, this hope was born among the supporters of the German club, after an exciting first 15 minutes against Cologne on February 3, for the first appearance of the French striker. Sombrero, backheel, in 15 minutes of a particular match since finished 9 against 11, Ekitike had shown the extent of his technical palette.

This had the gift of fueling a compilation on social networks, but it does not replace physical condition. Logically, the 21-year-old had to settle for parts of matches (5 appearances and 1 start in the Bundesliga), and is still far from his optimal form. Worse, from his first appearance, the club’s doctors warned the staff that they had to take it easy with Ekitike, after his long period of inactivity.

Eintracht decided to exercise the purchase option

From then on, despite a club which was lacking scorers and which lost its other offensive reinforcement of the winter Sasa Kalajdzic, seriously injured in the knee, Ekitike had to face the facts that his integration would take time. On the side of the German press, a touch of disappointment, but not really harsh criticism. And more important, on the club side, the desire to continue the adventure.

Indeed, as assured Sports Bild, Eintracht Frankfurt has decided to exercise the option to purchase the former Rémois. Initially loaned until June, without obligation but with an option, Ekitike is well considered as a solution for the future. The amount of the option had not been revealed, but the German media indicates that between the amount of the loan and that of the option, the operation should cost Eintracht €20 million. A nice influx of money in perspective for PSG.
