The Hazard burger, the strange homage of LOSC

By: Manu Tournoux

Eden Hazard’s return to Lille took place according to the rules of the art. The former Chelsea and Real Madrid player was treated to his own hamburger at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

The former Belgian international will be the guest of honor at Sunday’s Ligue 1 clash between Lille and Rennes. The 33-year-old returns to where it all began for him, as he made his debut in French football .

Hazard spent 12 years at Lille, coming out of the academy to make 194 first-team appearances and score 50 goals. He helped Lille win Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France, before joining Premier League giants Chelsea in 2012.

Delicious memories

Hazard won further titles in England, as well as the Europa League and FA Cup, before joining Real Madrid in 2019. The talented striker suffered a dismal failure at the Santiago Bernabéu, leading him to take early retirement in 2023, but Lille still hold him in high esteem.

The French club is doing everything possible for Hazard’s return. Supporters are invited to take advantage of special offers including hamburgers (a strange tribute when you think of a player criticized for his weight gain) and eco-friendly cups. Many will jump at the chance to get some limited edition memorabilia, while hoping to see their team take three points to try to qualify for the Champions League.
