Pierre Sage’s OL got back on track this Saturday by falling away to Lorient.

The heavy defeat against Lens at home, conceded last week, was perhaps ultimately just an accident for OL. This Saturday, the Rhone team got off to a good start, winning with art and style on the Lorient side.

The Rhone residents had to wait until the second period to break away at the mark, but they practically did not tremble in this meeting. The Merlus were too little offensively inspired to hurt them. Their star recruit of the winter, Muhammad Bamba, has been quite discreet for once.

OL thanks its defenders

The Lyon attackers, however, also needed time to find the fault. The solution at the forefront came from two defenders. While we were playing the 52e minute of play, Nicolas Tagliafico opened the scoring with a beautiful diving header from a cross from Clinton Mata.

It made 1-0 for OL, then 2-0 barely ten minutes later. Mama Baldé protected her family by winning a face-to-face match with Yvon Mvogo. The Bissao-Guinean striker thus signed his 1er goal of the season in Ligue 1. The score could then have been even more significant in favor of OL. At the 79eRayan Cherki saw his attempt rejected by Mvogo.

With 5e victory in 6 matches, Lyon temporarily returns to 1e half of the ranking. This result combined with OGC Nice’s misstep the day before means that Les Gones can still believe in qualifying for the European Cup. There are “only” 9 points difference on the 5e place.
