Women’s Olympique Lyonnais left the Coupe de France in which they were the huge favorite in the semi-final against Fleury.
While the men’s section had put up a good performance by winning at Lorient (0-2) in Ligue 1 in the afternoon, the girls of Olympique Lyonnais for once did less well than their boys counterparts .
Despite their status as huge favorites in the competition which they won last year for the 9th time in 11 years, the Rhodaniennes were eliminated in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France on Saturday. OL were taken on penalties and eliminated by Fleury, the team coached by Fabrice Abriel, after a 0-0 in regulation time.
The Champions League to console yourself
Griedge Mbock, Eugénie Le Sommer and Delphine Cascarino, all French internationals, missed their attempt, allowing the Franciliennes, 6th in the French elite, to create the feat. Fleury can thank her goalkeeper Chloé Ngazi, who was decisive during the session. To make matters worse, Ada Hegerberg, the Norwegian star of OL, was injured and left after 20 minutes of play.
The Lyonnaises will now be able to concentrate on the Champions League, where they will face Benfica in 10 days in the quarter-finals of the competition. In D1 Arkema, OL are 7 points ahead of Paris Saint-Germain after 7 days and should win their 17th title in 18 years without too many problems.
