The Liverpool Reds gave their coach Jurgen Klopp a nice gift on Thursday during the C3 match against Sparta.
Liverpool made short work of Sparta Prague on Thursday evening in the round of 16 first leg of the Europa League. A great show of strength and one that must have pleased Jurgen Klopp. And in more ways than one.
During this game, the 1000e goal of the Klopp era at Liverpool was scored (in official matches). It was the work of Darwin Nunez. At the 25e minute of play, the Uruguayan striker hit the target with a magnificent strike from 20 meters. A missile which completely surprised the last Czech rampart.
Klopp will remember Nunez
This total was reached in 476 matches. The average is therefore a little more than two goals per match. Note that the first achievement of the Merseysiders under the leadership of the German coach was also in C3. Emre Can registered it against Rubin Kazan on October 22, 2015.
As a reminder, Klopp is currently living his last season at Anfield. A few weeks ago, he announced that he would no longer be with the club next season. Xabi Alonso, a veteran of the house, is the favorite to succeed him.
