It is with a squad weakened by injuries that FC Barcelona is preparing to host Mallorca this Friday evening in La Liga.
Hanging last weekend on the pitch of Athletic Bilbao (0-0), FC Barcelona hosts Mallorca this Friday evening (9 p.m.), for the 28th day. A meeting for which Xavi will have to deal with many absentees, and not the least.
There are no less than seven players on whom the Catalan coach will not be able to count due to injuries. They are Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Gavi, Balde, Ferran Torres and Marcos Alonso. Barça will have to do without the services of Ronald Araujo, suspended. Consequently, the young Mikayil Faye, a 19-year-old Senegalese defender, is called up to the Barcelona group for the first time.
Pedri and De Jong latest injuries
In Bilbao, the Blaugrana lost Pedri and Frenkie de Jong to injury. “ Frenkie de Jong suffers from a sprain of the external ligament of his right ankle. Pedri, meanwhile, suffers from an injury to the rectus femoris muscle in his right thigh. They are unavailable and the duration of their absence will depend on their progress”Barça said in a press release published on Monday.
According to the Spanish press, Pedri will be absent from the field for 5 to 6 weeks, while Frenkie de Jong will be out for 3 to 4 weeks. As a reminder, the Blaugrana are currently third in La Liga, eight points behind the leader, Real Madrid, and are still in the running in the Champions League.
