The sports consultant refuses to get excited after PSG’s qualification for the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
This year, no cruel disappointment for Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. At least, not at the round of 16 stage of the most prestigious European club competition. The team from the French capital won rather easily (1-4) in the two matches it played against Real Sociedad.
For Jérôme Rothen, it is simply a train that arrives on time. “I am not minimizing PSG’s performance. This is a qualification for the quarter-finals of the Champions League. We’ve been waiting for this for a long time. To say that PSG lived up to the challenge, without wavering, is very good. But it’s logical,” analyzed the sports consultant, Wednesday evening, on the airwaves of RMC.
Rothen does not catch fire
Not only did Real Sociedad have no experience at this level, but they have been going through a very complicated period since the start of the year. “We have to put the quality of the opponent into perspective. When I hear Luis Enrique say, ‘we are capable of beating everyone’, excuse me, but you beat seventh in La Liga, a team that has been moribund for quite some time.” underlines the former attacking midfielder.
Qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time since the 2020-2021 financial year, the Rouge et Bleu will know their opponent next Friday March 15. The draw will take place at around midday at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.
