Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami enters the fray this Thursday in the round of 16 of the Concacaf Champions Cup, the North American Champions League, on the home field of another MLS team, Nashville.

Created in 2018 by David Beckham, Inter Miami is competing for the first time in the Concacaf Champions Cup, the North American Champions League, thanks to its coronation during the Leagues Cup last summer for Lionel’s first matches Messi. The Floridians face Nashville SC, another MLS team, with a round of 16 first leg in Tennessee this Thursday evening (at 3 a.m. on the night of Thursday to Friday in France).

The Ballon d’Or record holder, winner of the Champions League in 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2015 with Barça, is therefore making his debut in a major new competition alongside Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez. The 30,000 people at Geodis Park will have the pleasure of seeing the former Blaugrana glories at work.

Messi started the season well

After a very disappointing end to the season last year (without qualifying for the playoffs), despite the arrival of “La Pulga”, Inter Miami started the new MLS season well with two victories and a draw, its number 10 star having scored two goals and given as many assists. Luis Suarez, for his part, remains on a double of goals and assists last Saturday against Orlando.

In the event of qualification, Inter Miami will challenge the winner of the double confrontation between FC Cincinnati or CF Monterrey, i.e. the first in the MLS regular season last season and the winner of this Champions Cup in 2021…
