Bayern Munich won against Lazio Rome to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League (3-0).
An inglorious poor performance in the first leg (0-1), a second place in the Bundesliga, a humiliation against Bayer Leverkusen, rebellious executives and a coach on the verge of a nervous breakdown: it is in this explosive context that Bayern Munich met Lazio Rome this Tuesday evening in the round of 16 second leg of the Champions League.
If the German giant emerges each season as one of the big favorites for a final coronation in the competition, the violent crisis it is currently going through has redistributed the cards. In this sense, this second round against Lazio was a small turning point in the season for Thomas Tuchel’s men.
Bayern supported by its experienced executives
Bayern absolutely had to give an answer: they succeeded in their mission. Much sharper offensively, the German champions have finally shown the personality that defines the identity of this club. Above all, they added a touch of realism, compared to the first leg, to materialize their highlights and limit the damage to their opponent’s outbursts.
Who better than the inevitable Harry Kane to play the detonator? The English striker broke the deadlock after half an hour of play with a diving header which hit the mark (1-0, 37th). This goal did a lot of good for Bayern, liberated, who doubled the lead thanks to another frame, Thomas Müller, opportunistic to deflect a superb strike from Dier in stoppage time in the first period (2-0, 45th+ 2). An advantage that the Bavarians set about managing intelligently in the second half. Kane even added to the bill to put his team away once and for all after a nice collective movement (3-0, 66th). We will have to reckon with Bayern Munich for the quarter-finals of this edition.
