If FC Barcelona is interested in Luis Enrique to make him Xavi’s successor, the president of PSG, Nasser al-Khelaïfi, intends not to give the Catalan club a gift.

The coming summer will perhaps still be a favorable time for movement on the Paris Saint-Germain side. If the departure of Kylian Mbappé is practically confirmed, the fate of Luis Enrique could also be talked about. Arriving last summer and under contract until 2025, the PSG coach is in the sights of a club he knows well; FC Barcelona. Former player and coach of the club, the one who was on the Catalan bench during the famous “comeback” against Paris in 2017 is part of the list published by the Barcelona management for the post-Xavi era. Information from Marca which is not to please a certain Nasser al-Khelaïfi.

According to the media, the president of PSG is determined not to let Luis Enrique leave in June 2024, whatever the proposal that could come from FC Barcelona. Consequently, he will do everything in his power not to facilitate a possible departure of the Spaniard. The Iberian site added that Nasser al-Khelaïfi was particularly satisfied with the work done by the Parisian coach since the start of the season. And not only in terms of results, since the way in which Luis Enrique manages the players in his squad also suits the Qatari leader. The message is therefore clear: Luis Enrique is more Parisian than ever.

Third on the list

All this does not prevent Barça from dreaming of a return of their former technician who would even appear in third place on the Catalan list. The first option would bear the name of Roberto de Zerbi, current coach of Brighton & Hove (Premier League) and the second would lead to the former coach of Bayern Munich, Hansi Flick. The possibility of seeing Luis Enrique return so quickly to Barcelona seems, at present, very hypothetical, even illusory. Nasser al-Khelaïfi is in any case on the lookout.

And in the meantime, Luis Enrique still has many goals to fulfill with Paris Saint-Germain this season. First in the Champions League, with qualification for the quarter-finals to be validated on Tuesday evening against Real Sociedad. Then in Ligue 1, with a race for a twelfth French championship title which seems very favorable to him. And finally in the Coupe de France, a competition in which PSG will soon play the quarter-finals against OGC Nice (March 13)
