FC Lorient surprises Stade Rennais. In this Breton derby counting for the 24th day of Ligue 1, the Merlus took the upper hand over Rennes by winning with a score of 2 goals to 0 at Roazhon Park.

Mohamed Bamba and Eli Junior Kroupi hit the mark and allowed the Lorient people to win and take the three points in this game.

A victory which comes at the right time for Régis Le Bris’ players who are giving themselves some breathing space but above all taking 13th position in Ligue 1 with a total of 25 points on the clock. The Merlus are relaunching after the sudden setback against FC Nantes on the previous day.

On the other hand, it’s a big disappointment for Stade Rennais. Solid at the Parc des Princes the previous weekend (1-1), Julian Stéphan’s players had not conceded defeat in the championship since December 9 on their lawn against AS Monaco (1-2). This setback hurts SRFC which could have moved up to 6th place in the event of a victory.

Lorient solid and clinical

Stade Rennais started this Breton derby with total confidence. Steve Mandanda’s partners have generally mastered their subject. In place collectively with good sequences of play at times, the SRFC was in line with its previous outings.

However, the Red and Black are not often able to create this gap on the field for the difference and break the opposing barrier. From the hour mark, Julian Stéphan’s players were surprised by Mohamed Bamba (1-0.60th)

Solid until the end of the match, Lorient will manage to make the break at the end of the match with a devastating counter concluded by Eli Junior Kroupi (2-0.90). Amine Gouiri’s nice reduction in the score in added time changes nothing, the damage was already done for Rennes (2-1, 90+4).
