FC Barcelona are reportedly looking for a successor to Xavi after discovering that it would be “complicated” to recruit Roberto De Zerbi (Brighton).

Seagulls coach Roberto De Zerbi has been linked with the Catalan side, but a report from Spanish publication Sport says it won’t be easy to sign him. Therefore, the Blaugrana’s search to replace Xavi, who will leave his post this summer, is expected to continue.

The report states that Barca are likely to be unwilling to pay De Zerbi’s exit clause, which is around €15 million, due to the club’s precarious finances. Additionally, Liverpool, who are keen to find a replacement for outgoing manager Jurgen Klopp, are keeping tabs on the Italian and should they sign the former Sassuolo coach, they would need to act quickly.

De Zerbi, who joined Brighton in September 2022, led them to sixth place in the Premier League last season and took them to the knockout stages of the Europa League this year, has a contract that runs until 2026 at Amex.

As FC Barcelona continue their search for a new coach, Xavi hopes his side, who sit third in La Liga, can beat Athletic Club on Sunday night. The reigning champions can reduce the gap between them and leaders Real Madrid to six points if they win.
