Luis Enrique will be able to count on choice reinforcement for the short-term future of Paris Saint-Germain.
Commenting on his management of Kylian Mbappé, Luis Enrique clearly assumed that he was planning for next season. But well before this 2024-25 financial year, it is on the home stretch of this campaign that the Spanish technician must concentrate.
Leader of Ligue 1 with a large lead over its competitors, still in the running in the Champions League and the Coupe de France, Paris Saint-Germain respects its roadmap, failing to always be convincing in the content offered. And if Luis Enrique may deplore limits in certain sectors of play, the PSG coach will have a real additional option for these last months.
Luis Enrique: “We will have more variety, more choice”
For a week, Paris has indeed been able to count on Nuno Mendes again. A very offensive profile which could allow the capital club to diversify its strengths, after having relied on the complementarity of the Hakimi-Dembélé tandem on the right side. Luis Enrique does not rule out aligning these two full-backs renowned for their counter-attacking qualities.
“Good players can always play together. We adapt to the players available and Nuno Mendes is a very effective player in his position. We want to generate a sort of synergy for the team. (…) We have more variety, more choice. We can no longer play forward. He’s a more offensive player and it’s very interesting to have this option for the staff and for me as a coach.” Nuno Mendes will also be able to allow Luis Enrique to slide Lucas Hernandez into the axis of defense.
