The owner of Olympique Lyonnais finds the lack of suspense in the League difficult and blames PSG and its Qatari leaders for this.

PSG has not shined since the start of the season. This is the general feeling which has dominated in recent months, the French champions still seeming to be looking for themselves eight months after the arrival of Luis Enrique. The capital club also had the greatest difficulty in extricating itself from its Champions League group, finishing only in second place behind Borussia Dortmund.

In Ligue 1, the situation is completely different. After seeing OGC Nice start the season flat out, PSG quickly regained its throne as leader and is now 11 lengths ahead of its runner-up, the surprising Stade Brestois. The other big names are even much further away: Monaco is at 13 points, Marseille at 21 and Lyon at 26…

“Is anyone having fun?” »

Despite this season of transition experienced by Parisians, the 12e title of champion of France is already reaching out to them and the 2.4 points average displayed are edifying to say the least. And too bad for the suspense! The situation is also difficult for John Textor, the American owner of Olympique Lyonnais. “Who will be interested in the French championship and watch it on TV if we know who will win?” he asked himself on the sidelines of a conference organized by the Financial Times newspaper on the business of football.

“Everyone is fighting for second place, it’s the same team that wins every year,” he added, not failing to emphasize that the other clubs are “competing with a government, not a private company.” The American businessman does not hesitate to raise the subject with Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, the president of PSG. “I say to (PSG president) Nasser (Al-Khelaïfi) in private and sometimes in public: ‘Is anyone having fun?’ Why do you like it? » », he said.
