Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has been handed a four-year ban following unsuccessful doping tests, putting the Frenchman’s career in doubt.
The winner of the 2018 World Cup with the Blues tested positive for the first time on September 11, 2023, with a high level of testosterone in his body. Pogba was ruled out of the competition at that time and has not played for the Bianconeri since.
Pogba also saw the results of a ‘B’ sample test come back positive, with a provisional suspension already in place at that point. The French international has been placed on the lowest salary available at Juve pending the outcome of a protracted case. Subsequently, the National Anti-Doping Tribunal accepted the anti-doping prosecutor’s request for a four-year suspension.
End of career for Pogba?
Pogba and his representatives pleaded their case to Mr Pierfilippo Laviani, who led the investigation, but were unable to prove that the 31-year-old was unaware of what he was putting into his body.
Serious questions now arise over Pogba’s future. The former Manchester United star is tied to a contract in Turin until 2025. That contract could now be terminated, although Pogba is prepared to appeal his sanction by taking the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
