The Swiss Vladimir Petkovic has just been officially appointed as the new boss of the Fennecs.

The EN has a new boss. Via an official note, the Algerian federation confirmed this Thursday that it had reached an agreement with Swiss coach Vladimir Petkovic for a two-year contract. His arrival in Algeria is scheduled for next Sunday and he will hold a press conference on Monday.

For this mission which already promises to be arduous, he will be assisted by local coach Nabil Neghiz, familiar with the position, as former assistant to Christian Gourcuff.

Petkovic arrives

Petkovic has been without a position since the end of his role with the Girondins de Bordeaux. A mission not really successful since it ended with relegation to Ligue 2. The leaders of the Algerian Greens still preferred him to José Peseiro, the current coach of Nigeria, while Carlos Queiroz and Zinedine Zidane had previously declined the job.

Petkovic has never worked in Africa, but still has significant experience at the international level. With him, Switzerland had notably reached the final of the Nations League and was also very close to playing the semi-finals of the last Euro after having notably eliminated the Blues, despite being huge favorites, in the 8th.
