“The time has come for me to stop playing football. Despite the efforts made over the last three months, the pain in my knee has only gotten worse and the doctors are categorical. I no longer have a choice: I have to stop playing. It’s the fun of a beautiful chapter in my life.”. With these words, Franck Ribéry announced in October 2022 his decision to hang up his crampons at the age of 39, the fault of recurring knee problems which ended up getting the better of him. However, the former French international has not drawn a definitive line on the world of ball. Shortly after this announcement, the native of Boulogne-sur-Mer revealed to German media Bild his desire to become a head coach.

From then on, the Frenchman joined the staff of US Salernitana 1919, where he finally ended his career. As he tries to obtain his coaching license, Kicker reports that a place could be allocated to him within the academy of Bayern Munich, a club where he gained icon status by accumulating titles between 2007 and 20219. According to the German media, the fact that his son, Seif, playing with the Munich club’s U13s, could be a pretext to return to Munich to officiate among the youth ranks. On the other hand, Kicker informs that the Frenchman has never really cut the cord with his former training to the extent that he still has a residence in Bavaria where “he likes to spend time”.
