Barring a huge turnaround, Swiss Vladimir Petkovic should become Algeria’s new coach.

Algeria finally has its new coach. This is Vladimir Petkovic. The former Switzerland coach, who also passed through Bordeaux, accepted the challenge offered to him by the local federation.

The native of Sarajevo is currently in Algiers. He has already given his agreement in principle to become the new boss of the Greens. All he will have to do is put his signature on the lease. The announcement of his commitment should be made in the evening following a visit to the center of Sidi Moussa.

Petkovic less well paid than Belmadi

Petkovic was preferred at the last moment to José Peseiro, the current coach of Nigeria. Previously, Carlos Queiroz and Zinedine Zidane politely refused the job.

Petkovic’s salary is not yet known. But there is no doubt that he will receive less than the €200,000 per month that his predecessor Djamel Belmadi received. Concerning his mission, his objective will be to qualify the Fennecs for the 2026 World Cup, while reaching the quarter-finals of the next CAN.
