FC Barcelona are looking for a new coach and appear to be narrowing down their options for the position.
While several options have been floated after Xavi Hernandez announced his departure at the end of the season, it appears there are only four people left on the list, but Mikel Arteta is not one of them.
The Arsenal manager has made it clear he is not going anywhere after rumors he was considering taking the Barcelona job this summer. Arteta has a contract until 2025, and is negotiating a new one.
A disciple of Guardiola
According to Sport, Arteta was of interest to the Blaugrana board, but after finding he was not ready to leave Arsenal, he was ruled out as an option. Likewise, the report mentions that Xabi Alonso’s future is more likely to be at Bayern Munich or Liverpool next season if he leaves Bayer Leverkusen.
Arteta came through Barcelona’s La Masia academy for several years, but never made his debut for the Blaugrana. He was loaned to Paris Saint-Germain before being transferred permanently to Rangers. The 41-year-old has a good chance of getting a chance at Barcelona one day, given his links to the club and the fact that he is a disciple of Pep Guardiola.
