A La Liga assistant referee was left bloodied and required treatment after hitting a camera during the match between Real Betis and Athletic Club.
Women’s referee Guadalupe Porras was the unfortunate line referee in question while she was on the touchline at the Benito Villamarin Stadium. She only participated in the proceedings for 13 minutes before being taken to hospital.
Porras headed towards the halfway line after helping to confirm Chimy Avila’s opening goal for Betis. She was never able to go any further as medical staff rushed to her aid with a stretcher and took her to a nearby ambulance.
Porras allegedly collided with a DAZN 4K cameraman who was trying to film a close-up of the goal celebrations. She was left with a nasty cut above her eye and was replaced on the sidelines by fourth official Holgueras Castellanos after a long delay in proceedings.
Tebas implicated
Former La Liga referee Eduardo Iturralde Gonzalez told Cadena SER: “ Message to Javier Tebas (president of La Liga): the camera goes where it should not go. Let them work, the assistant referee is as professional as a player.”
Betis won the match in question 3-1, with Yuri Berchiche scoring an own goal in the 38th minute, before Johnny Cardoso completed the scoring in the 67th minute. It remains to be seen when Porras will be allowed to fly the flag again.
