The Marseille coach, Jean-Louis Gasset, has promised a big performance from his team on Sunday evening against Montpellier.

Three days after defeating Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League, OM returned to the Vélodrome for a Ligue 1 match. Sunday evening, the Olympians challenged their neighbor Montpellier and with the sole objective of winning.

24 hours before this meeting, Jean-Louis Gasset spoke to ensure a rise in the power of his people : “The first element was the mind. Things had to be simplified. It was the most important at first (…) Montpellier is a special match, the club of my life where I have all my friends and even my family. We’re going to play for 1h30. They want to win and so do I. The situation is complicated for Montpellier and we also have an obligation to achieve results. »

Gasset wants to “win matches and advance”

Gattuso’s successor also hopes for more winning football than that offered against the Ukrainians: “Thursday, we had to regain confidence. I told them all everything you are doing is insufficient. Have the mentality, memorize the great matches you have played. We started the climb this Thursday. I prefer when my team comes from behind, makes shifts but against Shakhtar that was not the primary objective. »

A victory and OM could catch up with the teams playing in Europe. Gasset assures that this is not his primary concern at the moment: “We will do our best to finish the season well. Now is not the time to look at the rankings. You have to win matches and move forward. »

The OM – Montpellier poster must inevitably evoke some memories in Gasset. He was on the Pailladins bench during the famous 5-4 in 1998. “The 5-4 in 1998 is a trauma for me. We often laugh about it with Rolland Courbis or even with Laurent Blanc. The Marseille public is exceptional. He never gives up. »
