Karim Benzema clarified that he was happy in the Saudi Pro League and that he did not want to return to Europe in January.
During the January transfer window, several reports claimed that the French striker was unhappy in the Saudi Pro League, just six months after moving to the Middle East, and wanted to return to Europe. The former Ballon d’Or recently returned to action with his club in the AFC Champions League and has now clarified that he never wanted to leave the Saudi Pro League and that speculation surrounding his desire to return to Europe were false.
“The story of my departure is not true and I am happy in Saudi Arabia”declared Karim Benzema to the press. I have no problem with Gallardo, everyone who says I want to go back to Europe is a liar. I am very happy at Al Ittihad. For my part, I don’t have a problem with anyone. Ask the coach about my absence, I was ready for the training in Dubai.”

Speculation has also been raised about the feud between the France international and his manager Marcelo Gallardo, although the player denied arguing with the Argentine technician. Since arriving at Al-Ittihad this summer, the 36-year-old has enjoyed a good spell of form, scoring 12 times in 22 matches in all competitions. He also provided six assists.
The former Real Madrid player’s next meeting will take place on Monday, during the meeting between his club and Al-Wehda, as part of the Saudi Pro League.
