The help obtained by Dani Alves from Neymar shocks the Brazilians.

The shockwaves of the guilty verdict are still reverberating around the world after Dani Alves was found guilty of sexual assault amounting to rape on Thursday. Alves was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, five years of probation, nine years of being prohibited from approaching and 150,000 euros in damages to the victim.

The sentence received a mixed reception. The prosecution asked for 9 years in prison, while the victim asked for a full sentence of 12 years, with an end result close to the minimum sentence of four years. The judge considered full payment of damages as a mitigating circumstance. To make matters worse, Alves could be released from prison later this year.

According to Sport, Brazilian Minister of Women, Cida Goncalves, described the sentence as “gentle” for “such an atrocity”. For his part, the president of the Workers’ Party and representative Gleisi Hoffman criticized the role of Neymar Junior in this affair. Neymar’s family reportedly gave Alves the 150,000 euros in damages, which led to his sentence being reduced.

Neymar helps Dani Alves, Brazil in shock

“The conviction of the rapist Daniel Alves is educational and exemplary, it shows that society no longer tolerates sexist and misogynistic behavior. What is absurd is that he borrowed money from Neymar, paid the compensation and reduced the sentence, which does not solve anything for the victim, it does not erase his suffering »said Ms. Hoffman.

This certainly raises questions about the divide between justice for the rich and the poor. Likewise, as a proportion of the wealth of Alves or Neymar, this represents a fraction of the former’s fortune and annual salary, while it is believed to be much less than a week’s salary for Neymar.
