Despite the elimination of Stade Rennais from the Europa League, Benjamin Bourigeaud scored a magnificent hat-trick against AC Milan on Thursday evening, becoming the first French player to score a hat-trick against the Rossoneri. The midfielder says.

He’s the (unfortunate) hero of the day. Beaten 3-0 at San Siro in the first leg of the Europa League play-off last week, Stade Rennais won with an insufficient score of 3-2 against AC Milan on Thursday evening in a burning Roazhon Park. Benjamin Bourigeaud scored his team’s three goals against Mike Maignan (11th, 54th and 68th), becoming the very first French player to score a hat-trick against the Rossoneri!

Satisfied to have given a “ true face of the Stadium », “Bourige” recounts how he was encouraged by his teammates to take charge of the second penalty obtained by the Rouge et Noir in the second half: “It is above all collective, since from the moment there was the second penalty, I consulted with Martin (Terrier) and Kali (Arnaud Kalimuendo) which are designated 2 and 3. I was designated number 1 and I had taken the first shot, at the time of the second penalty, I asked them if one of the two wanted to shoot. They told me: ‘a hat-trick is rare in a career, so have fun and enjoy it’. I took responsibility, shot it and scored it. I would like to thank them for this beautiful gesture. It’s thanks to the squad that I had the chance to score this hat-trick”.

The other nice gesture from his teammates

The 30-year-old midfielder obviously collected one of the match balls as he left the field and his teammates all wrote him a little note! He therefore leaves home with a superb souvenir. Enough to fill his gallery of trophies, he who won the Coupe de France in 2019 with this same club with Julien Stéphan already on the sidelines.

The player trained at RC Lens (and arrived at SRFC in 2017) has never been called up to the French team despite numerous quality seasons in Ligue 1. Bourigeaud has an excellent right leg, is generous in his efforts, altruistic and tactically intelligent, being able to play in several midfield positions.
