Real Madrid legend Luka Modric looks set to leave the club this summer after a season where he was relegated to the bench most of the time.

The 38-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season. His departure appears a given for all parties concerned, but Carlo Ancelotti has made one last attempt to keep him at the club, offering him a role on the coaching staff should he wish to step down. So far, Modric has politely declined the offer, unless he drastically changes his mind and wants to continue playing.

While his destination after Los Blancos is unclear – Saudi Arabia inquired about him last summer – Cadena SER say Modric intends to continue playing for at least two more years, which which will bring him to the age of 40.

The World Cup in sight

Additionally, he wants to continue playing for Croatia and participate with them in the 2026 World Cup in Mexico, Canada and the United States. Right now, he still feels like he has football in his legs.

This season may have helped him achieve that goal. If he intends to continue playing regularly between now and then, Modric will have had a much less taxing season on his legs this year, which could allow him to expand his abilities in the future. Either way, he is ready to lead Croatia to the Euros in Germany this summer.
