During his first season at PSG, in 2021-2022, Lionel Messi was visibly close to Idrissa Gueye. The Senegalese midfielder recounts the struggles of “La Pulga”.

Idrissa Gana Gueye is very attached to Everton. Recruited by PSG in 2019 for 35 million euros, the Senegalese defensive midfielder continued to carefully follow the Toffees’ matches, then in difficulty in the Premier League. After three years in the French capital, the Lion of Teranga made his return to the Liverpool club in August 2022.

The former Lille player thus had the opportunity to play with Lionel Messi, during the 2021-2022 season, and remembers being chambered by the Argentine idol. “MbappĂ©, yes, he was watching. I loved watching every game. Messi, no. It was difficult for me because we were losing a lot and he was saying: ‘bro, stop, are you watching your team lose and play like that?’ But it was funny”reports The Mirror.

Gueye, big Everton supporter

Gueye never broke contact with the Everton dressing room executives: “I used to message Seamus Coleman, Mason Holgate and Jordan Pickford saying: ‘mate, please do it!’. It was important for me to support them and show that I was there for them.”.

At 34, Idrissa Gueye remains a pillar of Everton this season, under the orders of Sean Dyche, but he however lost his place in Senegal’s eleven during the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, in being beaten by the young Pape Matar Sarr and Lamine Camara in the midfield of the Lions of Teranga until the elimination in the round of 16 by Ivory Coast (on penalties).
