Neymar hints at a rift with his former PSG teammate Kylian Mbappé after “liking” an Instagram post criticizing the Frenchman for his decision to leave.

Influential Brazilian social media account Jogada Ensaiada, who has 189,000 followers on Instagram, posted a damning assessment on the nature of Mbappé’s influence at PSG and the state of the team now that he is set to leaving – potentially for Real Madrid – on a free transfer. Neymar “liked” the post, the general caption of which was “ No player should be bigger than the institution”suggesting that he approved of its content.

The Jogada Ensaiada account detailed a real indictment on its publication: “PSG, an example of football management. They knew how to bring together the best players and had the best team on the planet. When the team started to do well, the ego of a “certain Frenchman” began to disrupt the atmosphere. Mbappé started to feel left out, most of the team spoke Spanish and he threatened to leave. To avoid losing its precious assets, PSG began to sell those who were not aligned with Mbappé’s ideas and brought in the French players they wanted. After doing everything to go his way, Mbappé communicated to PSG that he would leave the club for free at the end of the season. And in the end, that’s what’s left for PSG.”

Having become the second most expensive player in history by signing permanently for PSG in 2018, behind Neymar, the Bondynois is reaching the end of his lease with PSG. Reports in Spain are already pointing to an agreement with Real Madrid for a five-year contract that would pay €15 million to €20 million, with bonuses on top. That would make him Real’s highest-paid player, although he earns less money than in Paris since his last new contract in 2022.

As he prepares to leave PSG and France, Kylian Mbappé could achieve some feats to close this chapter of his career. He and PSG have yet to win the Champions League, but they have one foot in the quarter-finals after last week’s 2-0 first-leg victory over Real Sociedad in the round of 16.

Mbappé is also believed to want to represent France as a designated major player at this summer’s Olympics, which will be held on home soil. Neymar (2016) and Lionel Messi (2008) both have an Olympic gold medal in their respective collections.
