Paris Saint-Germain are considering bringing Xavi Simons into their squad next season to replace Kylian Mbappé, according to a report.

PSG are set to lose Mbappé this summer, with the striker expressing his desire to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season. A departure for Real Madrid seems certain and The Team reports that Xavi Simons is set to be reinstated following his loan spell at RB Leipzig, possibly as a replacement for the superstar.

Simons joined PSG in 2019, after leaving the Barcelona academy. He struggled to find minutes, however, and was sold to PSV in 2022, where he spent one season, before PSG exercised a buyout clause and subsequently loaned him to Leipzig. The 20-year-old has scored five goals and provided seven assists in the Bundesliga this season, but has only made 11 first-team appearances for PSG.

A disappointing replacement?

The Ligue 1 giants have been linked to pharaonic moves to replace Mbappé, even if he leaves on a free transfer. They would be particularly interested in Victor Osimhen (Naples) and Rafael Leao (AC Milan).

PSG has some time to plan Mbappé’s succession, but in the meantime, it will continue to seek success on the field this season. The Ile-de-France club faces Nantes on Saturday in Ligue 1.
