PSG avoids the Nantes trap

On a terrain that has not necessarily been successful in recent years, PSG managed to dominate Nantes this Saturday in Ligue 1.

PSG’s week ends as well as it started. After defeating Real Sociedad in the Champions League (2-0), the Ile-de-France team managed to dominate Nantes away in the league by the same score. A success which took a long time to emerge but which became inevitable after a victorious (and deflected) Lucas Hernandez strike at the hour mark (60e).

Mbappé scorer as substitute

Paris won. And he did it by allowing himself the luxury of leaving Kylian Mbappé on the bench at kick-off. The future ex Parisian only entered after the opening score. That didn’t stop him from going for his goal, as usual. A quarter of an hour from time, he converted a penalty that he had caused himself.

PSG therefore needed a little time to gain the upper hand in this match. But there was nothing surprising about this given Luis Enrique’s choices for his returning eleven. The Asturian technician played widely. In addition to Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé and Achraf Hakimi also started the game on the bench.

PSG did not force

Before the Parisians opened the scoring, Nantes had the opportunity to take the lead. The Canaries wasted it at the very end of the transfer window when Mostafa Mohamed and Nicolas Cozza found themselves in an ideal position to make the difference. Gianluigi Donnarumma did what he does to preserve the 0-0. In the process, Nicolas Pallois thought he would free his team, but his goal was refused due to offside.

Gourvennec’s FCN also finished the match well. But it is also because Paris has eased off somewhat. The visitors naturally chose to manage their lead rather than continuing to push. And it’s hard to blame them. Without forcing, they continue to quietly lead the championship.
