José Mourinho believes that Lionel Messi won his 2010 Ballon d’Or perfectly.

In the recent history of the Ballon d’Or, the 2010 competition is one of the most controversial. It was Lionel Messi who won it and at the time it caused a lot of talk. Many specialists have judged that the consecration of La Pulga was overused and that Wesley Sneijder (4e) deserved it a little more. Oddly enough, that’s not José Mourinho’s opinion though.

The Special One had trained Sneijder at Inter. Together, the two men even won a historic treble that year. Yet in his eyes, Messi was the ideal winner.

Mourinho admits Messi’s superiority

“Was the 2010 Ballon d’Or stolen? I don’t like to say stolen. Who won it that year? Messi. So, I won’t say that it was stolen,” said the Portuguese during a podcast for Five UK.

After this victory, Messi won 6 more Ballons d’Or. Sneijder, for his part, was only entitled to one nomination and without being able to collect the slightest point. A real turning point in the Batavian’s career, like that experienced by Franck Ribéry in 2013 with his defeat against Ronaldo
