There is no smoke without fire, and this fire appears to spell the end of Luka Modric at Real Madrid.
The Croatian is no longer part of the team and, 12 years after his arrival at the Santiago Bernabéu, his final months with the team seem to be looming on the horizon. The 38-year-old started until the end of last season, but this year his role has been significantly reduced.
According to Relevo, his sidelined against RB Leipzig in the Champions League was the straw that broke the camel’s back and he is heading for the exit. Modric has only started 15 of the team’s 36 matches this season and, although he has not spoken publicly about it, as he did at the start of the season, he has become increasingly frustrated with lack of playing time.
A huge tribute for Modric
In Valdebebas, we are already thinking about how to prepare for our departure. Madrid’s leaders prefer to avoid bitterness and seek emotional and special ways to pay tribute to the legendary Modric. One option appears to be to announce his departure before the end of the season and, like Andres Iniesta, have stadiums and fans pay tribute to him every weekend.
The reason why Iniesta was so revered was not only because he was a brilliant player, but also because he scored the winning goal in the World Cup for Spain. His contribution is the most emblematic in the history of Spanish football. Modric is not to be outdone regarding his exploits with the Croatian selection, finalist in 2018.
