FIFA ranking: Ivory Coast's huge leap!

Winner of the African Cup of Nations, Ivory Coast is doing excellently in the FIFA rankings, updated this Thursday.

Ivory Coast remains on cloud nine! Four days after the Elephants’ victory in the final of the African Cup of Nations, the FIFA rankings confirm their return to the forefront of continental football. Thanks to the third title in their history at the CAN, after 1992 and 2015, they are back in the Top 5 of the CAF selections.

Ranked 49e before the start of the competition, Sébastien Haller’s teammates jumped ten places and are only ahead of four teams in the African hierarchy: Morocco (12e+1), Senegal (17e+3), Nigeria (28e+14) and Egypt (36e, -3). Note the very strong progress of the Super Eagles, unfortunate finalists.

Tunisia and Algeria plunge

Disappointing during this CAN, which they left in the first round by finishing last in their group with 2 points, Tunisia and Algeria respectively plunged to the 41e and 43e ranks. A drop of 13 places for the Eagles of Carthage and the Fennecs, now threatened by Mali (47e+4), Cameroon (51e-5) and South Africa (58e+8).

With the Asian Cup, the FIFA ranking of the AFC zone has also evolved. If Japan remains in the lead despite a lost place (18e-1), ahead of Iran (20e+1) and South Korea (22e, +1), the best operation is carried out by Qatar. The Gulf country, winner of its second continental title, gains 21 places (37e+21) and joins the Top 5.
