Author of his sixth goal of the season in the Europa League with OM on Thursday, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is now the co-record goal scorer in the competition, tied with Radamel Falcao!
Since his hat-trick at the Stade Vélodrome against Ajax on November 30, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has had an incredible record in his sights: becoming the top scorer in the history of the Europa League! The OM striker had already overtaken Aritz Aduriz, author of 26 goals with Bilbao in this C3; he tied Radamel Falcao at the top of the rankings!
“Aubame” opened the scoring for the Phocéens against Shakhtar Donetsk, Thursday evening, in the first leg of the Europa League play-off, to score 30 goals. The Gabonese international will have the return match against the Ukrainian team next Thursday, and the possible next OM matches this season, in order to overtake Colombian “El Tigre” (who has the record for goals in a single season with 17 achievements).
At 34, the native of Laval has played no less than 55 Europa League matches, 7 with Losc (for no goals), 10 with Borussia Dortmund (for 8 goals), 26 with Arsenal (for 14 goals), 6 with Barça (for 2 goals) and 6 with OM (for 6 goals).
However, this is the historical ranking of the top scorers in the Europa League (and not counting the qualifying rounds). The UEFA Cup was renamed the Europa League in 2009 and if we take into account this European Cup since its creation, Henrik Larsson remains the record goal scorer with 31 goals. Aubameyang is only a length away!
