Liverpool turned down the opportunity to sign Kylian Mbappé on a free and here’s why.

Kylian Mbappé’s contract with PSG expires in June, and with no agreement on the horizon with the Parc des Princes resident club, the future of the 25-year-old world champion is up in the air. Real Madrid were reportedly close to a deal for the former Monaco striker, but latest reports indicate that the player’s mother, Fayza Lamari, is blocking the deal as she is unimpressed with the terms offered by the Whites.

Indeed, The Independent reports that Mbappé’s camp even contacted Liverpool to explore the possibility of a move to Anfield next summer, but the Reds rejected the possibility of signing him. And according to the same source, Arsenal would also reject the possibility of bringing in the French prodigy.

The reasoning of the two clubs is the same: the signing of such a player would shatter their salary structure and threaten to cause ruptures in their respective squads. “Mbappé’s wider circle contacted Liverpool last year, but there was no offer from the Anfield hierarchy. They just didn’t want it to the point of breaking their entire financial strategy,” indicates The Independent. “It’s similar with Arsenal, which Mbappé would happily join.”
