If the two teams returned to the locker room at the break with a parity score, the match finally settled in the second half. It was Max Fingrafe who took matters into his own hands by giving his team a definitive advantage in the 79th minute (0-1). While the fate of the match already seemed sealed, Andrej Kamaric shocked the crowd at the PreZero Arena by scoring at the end of added time (1-1, 90th+4) to secure the draw. Consequence in the ranking, Cologne misses the opportunity to come back to two points from Union Berlin, first non-relegation. Opposite, Hoffenheim is not reassured but nevertheless occupies the first part of the table.
