FC Barcelona have started talking to different coaches about the possibility of taking over from Xavi.
FC Barcelona has started looking for a new coach, and even if sports director Deco said on Wednesday that the club was not yet thinking about it, because it is “assimiling” the departure of Xavi Hernandez this summer, this is no longer the case.
According to Matteo Moretto, FC Barcelona has started discussing with different coaches the possibility of taking over. This information was revealed by The Daily Briefing, and although the links with Thiago Motta have died down, Moretto explained that the future of Motta and Antonio Conte will likely lie in Serie A next season. The latter would have been offered to the Blaugrana.
Deco and Laporta at odds
Furthermore, doubts also hover over the Roberto de Zerbi option. The Brighton manager is not only a candidate for the Liverpool job, but he also has a €12 million release clause in his contract. Giving the keys to de Zerbi would be a big investment both financially and on a human level, according to Moretto.
Earlier on Friday, it emerged that FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta had told Jorge Mendes he was not interested in Porto coach Sergio Conceicao, who was believed to be the choice Deco’s favorite. The two men will have to agree on the choice of the new coach, but everything suggests that Laporta will throw all his weight into the discussions.
