Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed that as things stand, he will be available after Euro 2024.

Even though 2023 hasn’t been the easiest year, Julian Nagelsmann’s shares are still high. The German national team manager is still one of the most in-demand coaches in world football, despite his surprise dismissal by Bayern at the end of last season and a difficult start at the helm of the DFB.

Following Hansi Flick’s dismissal last year, the 36-year-old was tasked with leading Germany to EURO 2024 success on home soil. What will happen after the tournament, however, is unclear. Nagelsmann’s contract only runs until the summer, meaning he will be on the market again later this year.

Above all, this means that he will be considered as a possible option for big teams looking for a new coach, such as Liverpool and Barcelona, with Jurgen Klopp and Xavi having both surprisingly announced their departure a day from now. interval last month.

While Xabi Alonso is currently considered the favorite to succeed Klopp at Anfield, there is no guarantee that he will actually leave Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season. Nagelsmann, on the other hand, is said to be available and apparently open to a return to club football.

Asked by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg whether he will still be in charge of the DFB national team after Euro 2024, Nagelsmann replied : “I haven’t thought about it yet. As my contract ends after the EURO, I would say: as things stand, no.”

Barça and Liverpool concerned?

“I have said it since the start of my mandate. The EURO is currently the center of attention. We will then see if I am still the coach. If so, we will prepare very well and try to make the most of it and win the (Nations League) group. We want to have a good Euro. Then we’ll see what happens.”

If Nagelsmann were to leave his post as Germany boss, the problem is that he would only be able to start club work quite late in the summer and with very little preparation. We can imagine that clubs as important as Liverpool and Barcelona will already have a new coach when Nagelsmann’s EURO 2024 adventure comes to an end.
