With the departure announced at the end of the season of Xavi Hernandez, FC Barcelona is working behind the scenes to find his potential successor. If the first names quickly emerged like Jürgen Klopp, José Mourinho and even Frank Rijkaard, no decision has yet been taken by the Blaugrana management. However, potential candidates began to be ruled out by the president of the reigning Spanish champion, Joan Laporta. This is the case of Sergio Conceiçao. As relayed by the Portuguese press at the beginning of February, the Lusitano technician should leave FC Porto at the end of the season, when his contract will expire after seven years of good and loyal service as well as 10 titles won with the Dragões.

In the process, the former coach of FC Nantes would have been advised to Joan Laporta by Jorge Mendes. But according to the information from SPORT, the Barca boss has made it clear that Sergio Conceicao is not part of the club’s plans to replace Xavi. In addition, the Spanish leader believes that the Portuguese coach’s playing philosophy does not correspond to his club. A decision which therefore goes against the vision of its sports director, Deco, who favors a technician capable of adapting quickly and giving young people a chance.
