A Real Madrid player sends a message to the management of the Merengue club.

Real Madrid have been the subject of speculation over their goalkeeper situation throughout the season, following Thibaut Courtois’ injury which has kept him sidelined for the entire campaign so far. However, it seems that the situation is starting to settle down.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, the goalkeeper on loan from Chelsea, was first choice until his injury in October, when Andriy Lunin began to challenge him for his place. As the two continue to take turns, Real Madrid appear to have decided not to seek a permanent deal with Kepa this summer.

Lunin’s future also appears uncertain. He has 18 months left on his contract and, before Christmas, there was talk of him joining Celtic, perhaps to play regularly in the first team. Now it seems more likely that he will stay at the club next season.

Lunin sends a message

He told El Chiringuito that he “ understood perfectly” the decision to recover Kepa and that it had not surprised him. If he admits that “you never know what can happen”Lunin, when asked about his future, was very clear: “ It’s obvious that I would like to stay.”

This statement, coupled with recent reports that Real Madrid want Lunin to support Courtois next season, seems to indicate that this will be the case. As for whether he will get a new contract beyond 2025, that’s another matter, but it’s one less headache for Los Blancos this summer.
