Olympique de Marseille could make a big move on the transfer market.

It’s a move that surprised many followers of Olympique de Marseille. A year after arriving with great fanfare as the most expensive recruit in the club’s history, Vitinha was sold during this winter window. The Portuguese striker was loaned to Genoa with an option to buy.

At first glance, this transaction looked like an exfiltration for a player who did not meet expectations, despite his good will. But Pablo Longoria hopes to achieve a big blow with this departure, since this transfer in the form of a loan is accompanied by a purchase option of 25 million euros.

OM: an unexpected sale?

According to information from Gazzetta dello Sport, Olympique de Marseille could well collect this compensation in the medium term. The Italian newspaper, always well informed on transfer window matters, specifies that the management of Genoa would like to exercise the purchase option included in the Vitinha loan.

The Portuguese center forward will, however, have to prove himself to justify this investment. Vitinha’s performance will therefore be closely scrutinized by the sports management of Olympique de Marseille. The Portuguese’s technical profile seems more tailored to his new club.
