Following his resignation from his position as coach of Ivory Coast, Jean-Louis Gasset would not be considered winner of the CAN in the event of a victory for the Elephants.
There Ivory Coast comes a long way. Having come close to elimination in the group stage of their African Cup of Nations, the Elephants finally reached the final after several completely crazy scenarios, notably against Senegal (in the round of 16) and Mali (in the quarters). On Sunday, they will face Nigeria to try to win the 3rd CAN in their history.
Gasset cleared
And if they were to win, the one who was the coach of the Ivorians at the start of the competition will not be rewarded. Jean-Louis Gasset had in fact resigned from his position as coach after the group stage and the scathing defeat against Equatorial Guinea (0-4). Replaced by Emerse Faethe French technician would therefore not be considered a winner according to the regulations of the African Football Confederation due to his resignation.
